Character Education

What do parents want for their children? Parents want them to be:

* Successful in whatever they do in school/life
* Be Happy and Kind
* Balanced in life, whether it is school, work or friends
* Knowledgeable and able to set goals and achieve them
* Be proactive in life and not reactive to situations
* Get along well with others
* Be able to work as a team

The Leader In Me program works on all those different aspects of what we want for our children to learn and become. Each month we will focus on each of these habits which are listed below, our students (your children) will learn to become leaders in their own life at school and hopefully at home as well.

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids are:

1. Be Proactive - You are in Charge of Yourself
2. Begin with the End in Mind - Make a Plan
3. Put First Things First - Work First, Then Play
4. Think Win-Win - Everybody Can Win
5. Seek First to Understand, Then Be Understood - Listen First Before You Speak
6. Synergize - Together is Better.
7. Sharpen the Saw - Balance is Best

We introduced the habits above last year to all our students kindergarten through sixth grade and will do more this year to submerge ourselves in the program. We plan to use leadership notebooks where the students will be able to track their own progress as well as set their own personal goals. They will also be able to set classroom goals with this data. Don’t be surprised if your student can show and tell you how they are doing at SEP conferences this year.
