"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." - Pablo Picasso
Milford Elementary School has become a part of the Beverely Taylor Sorenson Art Learning Program. This program will enable us to bring a art-rich education to our students.
Art teaches children:
- To make good judgements about qualitative relationships.
- That problems can have more than one solution and that questions can have more than one answer.
- To celebrate multiple perspectives.
- That in complex forms of problem solving, purpose are seldom fixed, but change with circumstances and opportunity.
- The fact that neither words in their literal form nor numbers exhaust what we can know.
- That small differences can have large effects.
- To think through and within a material.
- To learn to say what sometimes cannot be said.
- To experience the world in ways we cannot through any other source.
Some Ideas for Creating Art At Home:
- Provide different materials for children to use to create art.
- Provide lots of moments for pretending a playing by making up stories together in various ways.
- Use a hand held video camera or smartphone and make a 5 minute film.
- Make funny faces or sculptures out of food.
- Take children to museums, concerts, plays and/or art shows.
