Reading Around the World

Reading Around the World

By Kiley Fisher and Ryan Nichols

This year the Booster Club has initiated a new program called Reading Around the World. The wonderful parents that have made this decision are Nikki Winch, Jessica Fisher, and Kandice Cluff. In this program we will “travel” the world and learn about new places! Our first stop, China! The students of MES will recieve mini passports that they will get to cut out and color. At the end of every week their homeroom teacher will tally up their reading minutes and give them a stamp in the designated section. Then the student council will go to every classroom to record the minutes read. The classes with the most minutes will receive prizes to reward them for reading. The student council will drop clues about where we will be going next month. There will be a jar in the office to guess where we will be going next. Every student will get 1 guess per week. Every time we decide to go to a new place, there will be an assembly led by the team of parents in charge of this activity. In the assembly the students will get to enjoy a fun skit and learn more about the country we’re in. We will also get to graph on our reading chart to help us achieve our goal of 500,000 reading minutes. The goals are posted by the office,so start reading! These wonderful ladies have spent a lot of time thinking of this and working on making it a fun experience by using fun assemblies, signs, and many other things. There is a map of the world of where we are traveling that month. There are also signs next to the map about fictional places such as The Cranium Shaker from Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizarding from Harry Potter, Gotham City from Batman, Neverland from Peter Pan, & Narnia from the Chronicles of Narnia.  That is just some fun we will be having. This will help kids want to read, and have fun as they’re doing it!
