MES Meets Mr. Nacho

by Mrs. Evelyn Wright

Hank Smith, a much sought after public and motivational speaker, came to our school on August 27th. Everyone enjoyed his audience engaging, funny, and highly entertaining style of presenting the information. His presentation was guided by a Powerpoint with fun and entertaining images, movies, and chants to help the audience remember the content. Mr. Smith had a very important message for all; bullying is never to be tolerated in any way shape or form. Bullying can come in many forms such as unkind teasing or harassing behavior. We need to stick up for ourselves and others. Never be a bystander, but a “Stand Uper!” a person who gets involved with the solution and does not add to the problem by walking away when someone is being bullied.

Mr. Smith also addressed stranger danger and telling adults “No!” if anyone ever tries to touch you in places that are a personal zone or do things that make you uncomfortable.

Finally, we met a bag of Dorito chips called Mr. Nacho. When we say and do things that can injure someone else’s feeling of self worth, we can “crush their chips.” Mr. Nacho told us to remember, “Don’t Crush My Chips!”

Today, Mr. Nacho has a seat in the office to remind everyone to be careful not to crush each others chips or feelings. We need to always be a “bucket filler” with kind words and actions. Never ever crush somebody else's chips. Some people might look tough on the outside, they might be “crushed.” on the inside. Everyone needs to be loved. As we all departed the assembly, we all had a renewed determination to stick together by defending and reporting bullying. By doing this, we can make our school and community a safe and better place to learn and grow.
